1984 Toyota Landcruiser Engine Problem

My dad has a toyota land cruiser, 1984 model. It's a v8 with a holden commodore motor. It's recently started having trouble with the gear box, transmission and motor and has started overheating. Any advice on what the problem could be and how to fix it?

Replace the oil, filters and maybe the sensors. I would also check if something is blocking the cooler. (Like foglights) The cooler is placed right behind the bumper on the passenger side.
